Exodus: 2010 World Missions Jubilee
Hilton Hotel Universal City, California • August 5 - 8, 2010
“But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left… And when the Israelites saw the great power of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Him and in Moses His servant.” Exodus 14:29-31
Truly the Lord’s glory descended upon us at the 2010 World Missions Jubilee – EXODUS! From all around the world, we had 894 paid registrants for the WMJ and 256 for the Global Leadership Conference! On Sunday, God blessed us with an attendance of 1,010, a contribution of $18,355, two restorations and seven baptisms! However, Sunday’s highlight was the Spirit sending-out the 11 disciples on the London Mission Team In many ways, the Jubilee began the previous Sunday evening as the House Church Leaders and the London Mission Team gathered at Sal & Patricia Velasco’s home for the Send-Off Party. We had an incredible potluck dinner, as well as a tear-filled hour of sharing. To close out the evening, Michael & Michele Williamson – the leaders of the London Mission Team – cut the London Tower Bridge Specialty Cake, which was served “a la mode!” On Monday, many of us made several trips to the airport to greet the incoming brothers and sisters. On Tuesday, the Central Leadership Council convened. The “CLC” is the leadership for the 32 churches in 16 nations of the almost four-year-old SoldOut Discipling Movement. Included in the Council are Nick & Denise Bordieri, Chris & Theresa Broom, DJ & Kacie Comisford, Michael & Sharon Kirchner, Andrew & Patrique Smellie, Matt & Helen Sullivan, Tony & Therese Untalan, and Elena & me. On Wednesday morning was the Global Leadership Conference. The theme was also taken from the book of Exodus: Mighty Power And Awesome Deeds. Ron Harding’s speech entitled, Korah’s Rebellion And Aaron’s Staff was powerfully delivered. Of note, Chris Broom gave a moving and much needed class:Sharing Resources And Communication Between Ministries. This class was vital to reinforce the unity of all of our movement’s churches, if we are to fulfill Jesus’ dream – the evangelization of all the nations in THIS generation! That evening we had a delightful fellowship at the Speaker’s Dinner. Thursday evening was the official beginning of the 2010 World Missions Jubilee. Rob Onekea’s opening video on the Exodus, all of our churches, and The Crown of Thorns Project brought me and many to tears. Then DJ Comisford gave in my opinion his deepest and most eloquent sermon yet called, Let My People Go! To close out the evening, several brothers and sisters shared all “God had done” in their respective churches. (Acts 21:19) Friday morning, there were two reports – The Global Internet Ministry by Ron Harding, Jeremy Ciaramella and Rob Onekea, and The Administration Of The Churches by Michael Kirchner. Matt Sullivan then gave a dynamic sermon entitled, Nehushtan. In an unforgettable close, Matt dramatically smashed “an imitation bronze snake idol!” Two class sessions of five specialized classes followed, separated by luncheons focusing on MERCYworldwide, Chemical Recovery, Web Deacons and the Teens! That evening, Andrew Smellie – who did a phenomenal job as the Director of the Jubilee – gave a “sermon of warning,” The Golden Calf. The night ended as brothers and sisters gave tremendous performances during “The Kingdom’s Got Talent”Show, organized and hosted by Jeremy Ciaramella! Saturday, the Bordieri’s delivered a stirring MERCYworldwide Report. This was followed by the special session – The Jethro Principle. Opening-up this session was a hilarious comedic skit illustrating the need for delegation and the raising-up of leaders. Michael Williamson played the worn-out, white-bearded Moses and Chris Chloupek’s role was the “Godfather like” Jethro! Afterwards, Chris & Sonja Chloupek and Michael & Michele Williamson gave us “practicals” on Jethro’s godly advice to his son-in-law Moses on how to meet everyone’s needs, while not wearing-out himself. Then Chris Broom called us to be closer to God in his rousing lesson, The Cloud Over The Tabernacle. That afternoon and evening, many brothers and sisters enjoyed the fellowship while at Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain!
Throughout the Jubilee, there was a parallel program in Spanish very capably overseen by Victor & Sonia Gonzalez. The speakers included Raul & Lynda Moreno and Matt & Helen Sullivan, as well as Theresa Broom and the Gonzalezs. On Sunday, Oleg & Aliona Sirotkin of Kiev, Ukraine pierced our hearts with an extremely moving communion. Before I gave the closing sermon, some of the Washington DC brothers and sisters “brought down the house” with their rendition of the Black Eyed Peas’ song, I Gotta Feeling, detailing all of the churches of the SoldOut Movement! In my lesson, The Promised Land – On The Second Try, I taught that the Israelites failed miserably on their first attempt to enter the Promised Land, because of their lack of faith – which manifested itself in disobedience, grumbling and rebellion. However, God gave them the Promised Land on the second try, because of their “wholehearted” devotion!
Prayerfully, everyone who attended now has deep convictions that though we in our former fellowship sinned and fell short, this “second time” through a “sold-out” faith, righteous living, and merciful discipling relationships, God will lead the SoldOut Movement to evangelize the nations in THIS generation! I closed by challenging the lost to EXODUS the world and get baptized, the fall-aways to EXODUS their vomit and be restored, and the “half-hearted” among us to EXODUS their comfort and become“wholehearted,” just like Joshua and Caleb. As Joshua’s convictions led him to follow God’s angel and be on God’s side, so we in the SoldOut Movement must choose to be on God’s side and not set ourselves in opposition to our former fellowship or the Mainline Churches of Christ, but extend a loving hand to them to join us and be united on God’s side in conquering “our Promised Land” – a lost world of almost seven billion people! At the very end of the Jubilee, we were led in an awesome prayer for the success of the London Mission Team by our shepherds – Nick Bordieri and Tony Untalan. Immediately following, we rose from our knees and sang together with all our might Lu Jack’s “International Version” of The Glory Song. Then, after a thunderous applause, we felt it! We felt the Spirit not only sending-out the London Mission Team, but all of us “into all the world!” (Mark 16:15) Already, many disciples are talking about our next World Missions Jubilee in the summer of 2012! And to God be all the glory!
